Power Module

The power supply module is primarily responsible for selecting the best available power supply to power the other modules/PCBs in the system. Microcontrollers with built-in memory make up the CPU. Provides connection with the treatment card via a serial connection.

The main subsystems of the power module:

■ Power - The power supply uses the ORed_VBatt function (battery voltage OR DC power from an AC source) to provide two supply voltages to the entire board as follows: analog power to the power pump RS-232 control circuit

■ Power mux - The power supply switches the battery power on and off based on power availability and device load consumption in VBat. This circuit is monitored by the CPU and provides information to the CPU about the current voltage of the battery and AC module. If the AC voltage drops rapidly, the circuit automatically switches from AC to battery power. The AC module detects low voltage and sends it to other circuit boards via the device's internal communication bus.

■ Battery Charger (LIFEPAK 20 Defibrillator/Monitor) – The battery charger is a DC charger designed to support the NiMH battery selected for the device. NiMH batteries are not designed to be charged, so the AC power module controls how long the device lasts on battery power. Charge the battery after heavy use and periodically when not in use. Charging can be done with the device on or off, depending on your needs. The charger is designed to charge the internal battery, typically in less than two hours.

■ Battery Charger (LIFEPAK 20e Defibrillator/Monitor) – The battery charger is a constant current constant voltage charger designed to support the lithium ion battery selected for the device. Since Li-ion batteries are not designed to be charged, the AC power module monitors the state of charge of the Li-ion battery. When the charge level drops below 85%, the charger will start charging the battery (assuming the temperature is correct). is between 0° and 50°C). Charging can be done with the device on or off, depending on your needs. The charger is designed to charge the internal battery, typically in less than four hours, when the device is turned off and connected to the mains.

■ Sonalert — Sonalert is a sound generator in the power module that alerts the user if the device shuts down when not connected to mains power (thereby draining the internal battery). This power failure warning can be disabled. There is a shipping method setting that temporarily disables this feature when you pack the device for shipping.

■ RS-232 controller – RS-232 signals come from the control motherboard. The RS-232 control plane steps the signal to ±12 V before sending it to the system connector.
