Connecting Multifunction Electrode Pads

To connect multifunction electrode pads:

1. Check the expiry date on the pad packaging and inspect the packaging for any damage. Discard expired or damaged mats.

2. Connect the therapy cable to the HeartStart XL+

3. Unpack and connect the pads connector to the end of the therapy cable

4. Apply the pads to the patient as directed on the pads packaging or according to your organization’s protocol.

Warning

For adults in AED mode, the multifunction pads must be in the forward tip position shown on the packaging. For infant/pediatric patients, the pad can be in an anteroposterior position.

Do not let the multi-function electrode pads touch each other or other ECG monitoring electrodes, lead wires, dressings, etc. Contact with metal objects may arc and burn patient skin during defibrillation and may divert current away from the heart

During defibrillation, air pockets between the skin and the multifunction pads may cause patient skin burns. To help prevent air pockets, make sure the pads are fully adhered to the skin. Do not use dry pads. Do not open the packaging of electrode pads before use.

Using Multifunction Electrode Pads

To set up defibrillation with multifunction pads:

• Check the expiry date on the packaging of the electrodes and check whether the packaging is damaged.

• If not pre-connected, connect the therapy cable to the HeartStart XL+

• If the electrode pads are not expired and the package is not damaged, please open the package and connect the electrode pad connector to the end of the therapy cable

• Apply the pads to the patient following the directions on the pad packaging or according to your institution's protocol

•  Follow the defibrillation procedure
