Note :Operating the transducer near sources of strong electromagnetic fields such as radio transmitters or similar devices may cause temporary performance degradation or interference visible on the monitor screen. When visualizing hypoechoic structures, a brightening of the image background may be noticed, or color spectrum interference, dithering, or horizontal lines may appear in the image screen. Transducers and systems have been designed and tested to withstand such interference without permanent damage.

 

Transducers — Care

  • WARNING: Always place sterile, pyrogen-free transducer covers over transducers used for procedures requiring aseptic technique.

 

  • WARNING: To minimize the risk of cross-contamination and infectious disease, intraoperative transducers should be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected after each use. A sterile, pyrogen-free transmitter housing should be used for procedures requiring aseptic technique.

 

  • WARNING: Severe allergic reactions have been reported with medical devices containing latex (natural rubber). It is recommended that healthcare professionals identify latex-sensitized patients and prepare for prompt management of anaphylaxis. For more information on the United States, see FDA Medical Alert MDA91-1.

 

 

  • WARNING: If the transducer becomes contaminated with tissues or bodily fluids from a patient with CJD during a neurosurgical procedure, the transducer must be destroyed as it cannot be sterilized.

 

  • WARNING: Patient leakage current can accumulate when using intracavitary or intraoperative transducers with Type CF components.

 

  • WARNING: The exterior surfaces of the intracavity or intraoperative transducer should be inspected to ensure that there are no rough surfaces, sharp edges, or unintended protrusions that could present a safety hazard. CAUTION: Transducers are delicate instruments: they can cause irreparable damage if dropped, struck by other objects, cut or punctured. Do not attempt to repair or modify any part of the converter.

 

  • CAUTION: To avoid cable damage, do not wrap the system around the transducer cable.

 

  • CAUTION: To avoid damage to the transducer, do not use a transducer sleeve with an oil-based coating or a petroleum or mineral oil-based connector. Use only water-based ultrasound gels.
  • Note: Follow all sterile item (transducer sheath) manufacturer's instructions for proper handling, storage, and flow of all sterile items. Be careful when handling and storing the transducer. Do not drop, shake, or knock the device against other objects. Do not expose the transmitter to sharp or pointed objects.
