About CARESCAPE R860 ventilator

 

The CARESCAPE R860 ventilator is designed to ventilate or mechanically assist neonatal, pediatric and adult patients weighing more than 0.25 kg. The CARESCAPE R860 ventilator is a microprocessor-based, electronically controlled, pneumatically driven ventilator with integrated monitoring of FiO2, airway pressure, flow and volume. Use of GE's optional patient monitoring module supports additional respiratory gas monitoring capabilities. Not all features are available for all patient types or product configurations. The CARESCAPE R860 ventilator is not a lung function calculator.

Inspiratory

Compressed gas enters the ventilator through specific fittings for air or O2 gas placement requirements. Gas leaks as it enters the fan motor duct. A boost pressure sensor is used to monitor the adequacy of the boost pressure. Faults in the gas supply, connected hose or clogged filter can be identified using the supply pressure sensor. Check valves prevent system back flow that could contaminate the gas supply. The pressure regulator provides constant pressure to the intake flow valve. An inspiratory flow sensor is used during system operation to measure the volume of gas delivered from the air and O2 channels during inspiration. Use the data to adjust the relative proportion of volume delivered from each channel to precisely control the percentage of O2 delivered to the patient. Each inlet flow valve is capable of measuring flows from approximately 0.05 l/min up to 160 l/min. The valve is a normally closed, proportional solenoid valve, powered by a current feedback loop. A total flow sensor is used to measure the combined inspiratory flow distributed throughout the system. Using a known mix composition, the mass flow data from the sensor is converted to volumetric flow delivered to the patient. During normal operation, the controlled inspiratory force valve opens to allow free breathing if the patient inhales significant inspiratory pressure. A free breathing valve allows the patient to breathe spontaneously in case of inadequate ventilation. During the inspiratory maneuver, the breath-triggered valve closes, blocking the free-breathing valve to the patient circuit. The O2 sensor works on the principle of paramagnetic oxygen. The sensor is used to monitor the O2 mix produced by the inspired air and the O2 channels. The displayed FiO2 value is adjusted based on the relationship between atmospheric pressure and the 1.3 second moving average of the cycling pressure obtained from the inspiratory pressure sensor. The sensor uses non-depletion technology. The relief valve is capable of unloading both the intake and exhaust sides of the system at full flow. This valve is normally closed and will be activated by one of the two control processors when an overpressure condition is detected. The relief valve also opens mechanically at 110 cmH2O. The airway pressure sensor functions as one of two airway pressure devices. All pressure sensors use silicon piezoresistive technology.
