Mindray LM18-5WU Linear Ultrasound Probe High Frequency Transducer

Introduction

The Mindray LM18-5WU is a high-frequency, wide bandwidth linear array ultrasound probe. It utilizes Mindray's proprietary UWN  technology, leveraging high-performance piezoelectric composite materials and precision beamforming technology to significantly improve color Doppler sensitivity and suppress motion artifacts.

The probe features a medical-grade high density housing and an integrated cable design. The compact and flexible probe head is ideal for scanning curved areas such as the neck, limbs, and joints. The housing is resistant to aging, can withstand routine sterilization with hospital grade cleaning agents, and supports standard high-temperature sterilization procedures, meeting infection control requirements. It provides uniform, high resolution images with a high signal to noise ratio, clearly delineating fine structures and reducing edge attenuation and artifacts.

Connecting the probe

1. Ensure the ultrasound system is powered off before connecting or disconnecting any transducer.

2. Check that the probe connector and the system port are clean and free from debris or moisture.

3. Align the connector with the corresponding port on the ultrasound system – the connector is keyed and will only fit one way.

4. Gently push the connector straight into the port until it is fully seated. Do not force it.

5. Secure the connector using the locking mechanism (typically a twist‑lock or latch, depending on the system).

6. Power on the system and verify that the probe is recognised.

Disconnecting the probe

1. Power off the system.

2. Release the locking mechanism on the connector.

3. Gently pull the connector straight out of the port – never twist or rock it from side to side

Cleaning and Disinfection Guidelines

Probes must undergo appropriate cleaning, disinfection, or sterilization upon completion of every examination. Repeat these handling steps prior to subsequent use if circumstances demand it.

Sterilization of the needle‑guide bracket is mandatory once biopsy operations are carried out. Skipping this critical step can turn both the probe and needle‑guide bracket into potential infection hazards. Always refer to the official user manual to carry out proper cleaning workflows.

WARNING The probe connector is non‑waterproof. Under no circumstances should it be submerged in water, disinfectant solutions, or any other liquid. Liquid exposure can trigger equipment malfunction and create electric‑shock risks.

CAUTION ‑ Inadequate or omitted cleaning and disinfection work will make the probe a possible source of cross‑infection. Observe the disinfectant supplier’s official directions throughout the whole process. This covers sterile‑water preparation as well as required contact and processing durations for cleaning and disinfection.
