Replacement Medical Oxygen Sensor PN 396200-02 for Hamil-ton Ventilator

Brief introduction

The Hamil-ton Medical 396200-02 is an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) oxygen sensor designed specifically for Hamil-ton Medical ventilators. It is a galvanic battery-type oxygen cell that continuously measures the oxygen concentration in the breathing gas delivered to the patient.

This sensor is a critical safety component in mechanical ventilation. It provides real‑time feedback to the ventilator's control system, ensuring that the delivered oxygen concentration matches the clinician's prescribed setting – and alerting the system if it deviates.

Functions

1. Continuously monitors delivered oxygen concentration. The sensor sits in the inspiratory limb of the breathing circuit, measuring the fraction of inspired oxygen (FiO₂) in real time. This data is fed back to the ventilator's control system, which adjusts the oxygen‑air blend to maintain the prescribed FiO₂.

2. Uses galvanic cell technology for reliable, drift‑free measurement. The sensor operates on an electrochemical principle: oxygen diffuses through a permeable membrane and reacts at the cathode, generating a voltage signal that is directly proportional to the oxygen partial pressure. This type of sensor is known for its stability, linearity, and long service life.

3. Delivers fast response to oxygen concentration changes. With a T90 response time of ≤15 seconds, the sensor captures rapid fluctuations in oxygen concentration. This matters in clinical scenarios where FiO₂ changes quickly ,such as during patient transport, changes in ventilator settings, or when the oxygen supply is interrupted.

Installation procedure

  • Remove the new sensor (396200-02) from its sealed blister packaging.
  • Insert the sensor into its mounting position, ensuring it is fully seated and correctly oriented.
  • Connect the sensor's electrical connector to the ventilator's main board or sensor interface.
  • Ensure the connector is fully seated .
  • Reassemble any covers or panels that were removed.
  • Power on the ventilator and run the oxygen sensor calibration procedure as described in the service manual.

Notice

1. Please replace the sensor as instructed. The ventilator software tracks sensor usage and alerts you when replacement is necessary. Do not ignore these warnings; a faulty sensor will produce inaccurate FiO₂ readings, endangering patient safety.

2. Check the sensor's expiration date before installation. The sensor has a shelf life of 2 years from the manufacturing date when stored in its sealed packaging. Do not use expired sensors.

3. Handle the sensor with care. The sensor contains a galvanic cell and a permeabilized membrane. Avoid dropping the sensor, exposing it to extreme temperatures, or damaging the permeabilized membrane surface.

Store spare sensors properly. Store unused sensors in their original sealed packaging in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.

4. Calibration is required after each sensor replacement. New sensors must be calibrated before use on a patient.
