Basic Function: Its core function is to detect whether there is paper inside the ECG machine and promptly alert the main unit when paper is out.

The sensor typically consists of one or a group of photoelectric sensors (photocouplers):

• One end of the sensor emits infrared light
• When paper is present, the paper reflects the infrared light, which is detected by a receiver at the other end. The main unit then determines that "paper is present"
• When paper is absent, the infrared light is not effectively reflected (or is absorbed), and the receiver signal weakens or disappears. The main unit then determines that "paper is out" and triggers a buzzer alarm or displays a message such as "PAPER OUT" on the screen

If this function malfunctions, the machine may:

• Fail to sound an alarm when paper is out, potentially missing important patient ECG records
• Issue a false alarm, indicating that paper is out even though paper is present, preventing normal operation
