The carbon dioxide function utilizes infrared light absorption technology to measure both excited and expired carbon dioxide and respiration rate. The patient monitor is connected to an external CapnoFlex low-flow lateral flow module or a novamet carbon dioxide III sensor connected to the airway adapter in the patient ventilation circuit. The circuitry that drives the sensor and processes its incoming signal resides within the DAS. Provides patient-adjustable upper and lower alarms for inhaled carbon dioxide, expired carbon dioxide, and breath rate. A patient alert for undetected breaths is also provided. Provides system alerts for various sensor conditions. Patient monitors accept connectors that are color coded in yellow

To calibrate the airway adapter, follow steps below :

1. Make sure the sensor is connected to the adapter.

2. Make sure the sensor cable is connected to the monitor CO2 patient port.

3. Make sure the airway adapter is clean and free of debris.

4. Place the sensor and adapter away from all sources of CO2, including the patient's ventilator exhalation, exhalation, and outlet valves.

5. Select the CO2 Parameters Window tab.

6. From the CO2 menu, select CalibrationAdapter.

7. Choose Ready. The "Calibration" message is displayed in the CO2 parameter window. When calibration is complete, the message will be cleared.

How to clean adapter

To clean the reusable adapter Wash with warm soap. and then immersed in a liquid disinfectant (Pasteurizer or cold sterilization) such as glutaraldehyde. Rinse with sterile water and dry.

To clean the adult dead zone adapter and low volume. Sterilize using ETO gas method or steam autoclave. Using a steam autoclave may shorten the life of the adapter.

Before reusing the adapter Make sure the sensor window is dry and free of debris. Also ensure that the adapter is not damaged during handling, cleaning, or disinfection.
